Maple Schools Set

To help northern New York meet the growing worldwide demand for maple syrup and
other maple products, the Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) associations of
northern New York are offering four concentrated education opportunities for
anyone interested in learning maple sugaring as a hobby or a business. Host
sites are the American Maple Museum in Croghan, Gouverneur High School, and
Brushton-Moira Central School in Brushton. Admission ranges from $5 to $30,
depending on the location.
The Northern New York Maple Schools offer a host of experts offering
presentations and hands-on learning opportunities. Topics include maple
production, pricing, business development, and forest management. Workshops on
walnut and birch syrup production and growing mushrooms are part of the maple
school in Croghan on Saturday, January 19. Using GPS in your woodlot and Maple
Royalty are among topics at the event in Gouverneur on Saturday, January 26.
The first-ever Maple School in Franklin County includes a maple equipment
auction after the workshops on Saturday, February 2 at 4 p.m.

1st Annual Franklin County Maple Producers School and Trade Show, 8 a.m. - 3
p.m., Brushton-Moira Central School, Brushton
Registration opens at 7:15 a.m.; Cornell University, CCE and maple industry
specialists teach on syrup production, equipment, maple tubing, sugarbush
thinning, filtering, canning, making value-added maple confections, buying and
selling, licensing, tax assessment, stainless steel welding, wholesaling, direct
marketing. Co-sponsored by new Franklin County Maple Association, CCE Franklin
County, and Brushton-Moira Central School FFA.
